March 2026 News Update: China Brake Parts Industry Expands Global Footprint as Middle East & Africa Demand Rises

Created on 05.20
Introduction
As the global automotive aftermarket continues to evolve, China‘s brake parts manufacturing industry is making significant strides on the international stage. From cutting-edge technology breakthroughs to expanding overseas production bases, Chinese brake component suppliers are strengthening their position as reliable partners for distributors worldwide.
At WJ Brake, we believe in keeping our partners informed. Here‘s what’s happening in the industry this month.

1. Chinese Brake Manufacturers Accelerate Global Expansion

One of the most notable developments comes from Chinese brake manufacturer "Mofriction No. 1", which has successfully established an overseas production base in Mexico. In May 2025, the company acquired a brake pad manufacturing facility in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico from global braking industry giant Tenneco (DRiV). Since the Mexican factory began production, it has secured over USD 1.4 billion worth of orders from the North American market, nearly matching the company‘s entire annual output-1.
This move shifts the strategy from simple “product export” to “system overseas expansion”. The Chinese factory produces core friction materials, while the Mexican plant handles final assembly, leveraging tariff-free advantages between Mexico and the United States. Delivery time has been reduced from 45 days to just 3 days, benefiting customers with faster service and lower costs-1.

2. Chinese High-Speed Rail Brake Components Going Global

Another inspiring success story comes from Heze Detong New Material Technology, a Shandong-based company that has quietly become a “hidden champion” in the high-speed rail braking sector. The company‘s brake pads now equip China’s Fuxing and Hexie high-speed trains and are exported to over 20 countries and regions worldwide-3.
What makes this significant? High-speed rail brake pads must withstand extreme temperatures and pressures during emergency stops at speeds up to 530 km/h. Detong has earned 12 UIC certifications (International Union of Railways) and holds 70 authorized patents, making it the first private company in China to achieve this milestone.-3.

3. Global Brake Parts Market Continues Steady Growth

Market research indicates that the global brake pad market will reach USD 12.71 billion in 2025, with a projected CAGR of 1.63% through 2032.-8. Another forecast places the 2025 market size at approximately USD 16.98 billion, expecting growth to USD 19.58 billion by 2032-. This steady growth is primarily driven by demand for replacement parts in the aftermarket sector.

4. Middle East & Africa: A Fast-Growing Market

The Middle East and Africa represent significant opportunities for brake parts suppliers. Egypt’s automotive aftermarket reached USD 4.5 billion in 2020 and is expected to exceed USD 6 billion in 2025, with 60% of parts relying on imports. Over 70% of vehicles in Egypt are more than 10 years old, creating strong demand for brake pads and other wear-and-tear parts-37.

5. U.S. Tariffs Reshape Supply Chains

Since May 2025, the United States has implemented additional 25% tariffs on 37 categories of auto parts including engines, transmissions, tires and powertrain components. However, China and the U.S. reached an agreement in Geneva in May 2025 to cancel 91% of additional tariffs, including on automotive glass, wiring harnesses and seats, though core auto parts remain subject to Section 301/Section 232 base tariffs of 25%–100%. For brake parts suppliers, this has accelerated the trend of establishing overseas production bases like the Mexico facility mentioned above, helping partners navigate tariff challenges.

6. Industry Innovation Continues

On the technology front, Shandong Xinyi Auto Parts has filed a patent application for a brake pad processing fixture designed to improve work efficiency-52. The company has also been granted a patent for a laser Doppler vibration-based brake disc dynamic balancing inspection system-54. These innovations reflect the industry‘s ongoing commitment to quality assurance and process improvement.
